What is packaging material?
Packaging material, as distinct from shipping material, refers to the inner packaging – the material you use to cushion, secure, and wrap your goods. Its purpose is to protect the items from damage, contamination, and the elements. During transport, your goods are exposed to countless impacts, vibrations, scratches, and other stresses. Packaging materials provide the necessary protection, internal cushioning, and secure fastening.
What packaging materials are available?
Packaging materials include cardboard and paper, such as wrapping paper, tissue paper, corrugated cardboard, and boxes. Plastic packaging materials include bubble wrap. Additionally, there are foam packaging materials and packing peanuts.
What are the packaging materials used for?
Inner packaging serves various purposes, and the lines between filler and cushioning material can be blurred. Inexpensive recycled packing paper, crumpled appropriately, can also be used as excellent filler material. Depending on what you are packaging, your goods first need protection from scratches, for example, with suitable packing paper. Furthermore, it's about protection that prevents the goods from moving and sliding, and cushions against mechanical stress from impacts, shocks, and vibrations. Corrugated cardboard and bubble wrap in combination with packing paper are suitable for this purpose. We offer a wide range of options and the right solution for your packaging needs.
Bubble wrap
Bubble wrap consists of two or three layers of welded polyethylene and is the all-rounder among packaging materials, capable of meeting virtually any cushioning need. Its advantages include low weight and low shipping costs combined with reliable protection. It flexibly adapts to any shape and is waterproof. Bubble wrap is available in various versions: two- or three-layer, antistatic, paper- or non-woven-laminated, and with extra-large bubbles.
Corrugated cardboard rolls
Another way to cushion and protect your goods during shipping is to use corrugated cardboard rolls. By gluing together a smooth and a corrugated sheet of paper, the material becomes exceptionally strong while remaining very lightweight. The term "gluing" was formerly used to describe this process, hence the name "cardboard." It also absorbs moisture and is used, for example, as a divider between individual products in a package or as a cover for the products. Because it is easily foldable, it is also frequently used for wrapping products. Corrugated cardboard rolls are also an ideal material for storing your products. Corrugated cardboard is particularly environmentally friendly because it uses a high percentage of recycled materials. It is also generally produced without paint or bleach, thus preventing contamination. Very few waste products are generated that could burden the environment.
Brown and white packing paper
Wrapping paper is a general term for various types of paper, available in a wide range of weights (25-120 g), sizes, colors, and qualities, and for different purposes. The appropriate paper grade depends on the weight and fragility of the goods being packaged. The thicker the paper, the more suitable it is for heavier items. Recycled paper has a recyclable appearance and is therefore more commonly used as filler and cushioning material.
Wrapping paper on a roll vs. wrapping paper in sheet format
Packing paper is available in sheets in 10 kg packs or on rolls of varying lengths. The advantage of sheets is that they don't require tools like roll holders or cutters, and the 10 kg packs take up less storage space. Sheets can be easily crumpled and used as packing material for shipments. With rolls, you can tear or cut the packing material to the desired length to suit your individual needs.
Colored packing paper on a roll
Our colored wrapping paper on a roll is a brown, high-quality, ribbed kraft paper, printed with color on one side. Its tear resistance makes it suitable for a variety of packaging purposes, and it is primarily used as gift wrapping and protective paper for wrapping and packaging goods.
tape
You can't do without adhesive tape to secure packaging material, even for inner packaging. Standard PP adhesive tapes are available in various colors and in quiet and loud unwinding qualities. The backing material determines the tear resistance and elongation properties. PP is more cost-effective and environmentally friendly, while PVC is more durable and tear-resistant.
